Trump’s Homophobic Vice President?

As if the wonderful miracle that was the Trump campaign couldn’t get any worse.

Indiana Governor Mike Pence is set to join the republican ticket as Vice President, according to various sources. Trump will announce his pick on Friday, just days before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

Governor Pence has a proven track record of nothing but intolerance and incompetence and should scare LGBTers (and well, anyone). Many will remember his fiasco with Indiana Senate Bill 101, a law focused on allowing businesses to refuse to service individuals based on religious objections, widely seen as a swipe at the LGBT+ community, as evidenced by the usual example of a Christian baker having to make a “Gay wedding cake” against their will.

Pence’s record against LGBT+ rights extends even further. In Congress Pence was primarily against gay rights due to his religious objections, as well as the constant and ridiculous argument that equal rights for LGBT+ people imposed on religious freedoms. Pence has been against additional funding for HIV/AIDS, against workplace discrimination protection bills, hate crime legislation, and has even been in favor of a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

Pence is known in his state for other staunchly conservative principles, including the promotion of fracking, opposition to abortion, opposition to stem cell research, promotion of a balanced budget and lower taxes, promotion of school prayer, and opposition to environmental protections, just to name a few from different categories.

It was only a few weeks ago that news organizations were pointing to how Trump could be one of the best republican nominees for LGBT people ever. It was a short honeymoon.
